Orange Day
Semester Tests
Students are reminded that on testing days:
· Any downtime during a testing period is considered reading time. Please remember to take a book or magazine with you to each of your semester tests.
· When you get out early due to testing, please do not visit any other West Des Moines School Campus. They do not appreciate the interruption to their school day.
· Please note that during the testing times, the main building-including the team areas-is closed. If you are at Southwoods and not taking a test, you will need to be in the forum. You will not be allowed into the main building until the testing period has concluded.
· One of the fun aspects of semester tests is being able to enjoy open campus. Unless otherwise instructed by a teacher, you do not have to be at school when you do not have a test. If you have missing assignments, a teacher can revoke your open campus privileges and require you to be in his or her room to complete those assignments.
Medications
If you have medication in the nurse’s office, please pick it up before the end of the school year (May 31). Medication cannot be stored from year to year.
· All emergency medication must remain at school until finals for that student are completed.
· Any medication that is a controlled substance must be picked up by a parent or guardian unless the nurse is notified otherwise.
· If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Roberta (email click here) or 633-4521.
Library News
All library materials should be turned in TODAY (May 24).
Chromebook turn in begins Tuesday (May 28). Please make sure you know where both your case and charger cord are located.
Community Service
There is one new one: Opportunity on Deck is a no-cost athletic program for central Iowa students. The goal of O.O.D. is to teach young participants a variety of basic sport skills while instilling the principles of hard work, teamwork, and dedication. This summer students are able to participate in baseball, flag football, and summer camp. Baseball will be held May 30 – July 2, Flag Football will be held July 16 – August 15, and Summer Camp will be held August 12 -16. The clinics and camp will be held at various sites in Clive, West Des Moines, and Windsor Heights. To help in the success and fun of these activities Silver Cord volunteers are needed! For more information and to find the signup links go to the WDMCS Silver Cord pre-approved volunteer opportunities web page and look for Opportunity on Deck.

Notes to Parents & Guardians
Parents and guardians, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and assignments in Infinite Campus. The information you gather here can help to facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.
If you do not have an Infinite Campus account (click here).
No School Reminder: There is no school for students Monday (May 27) as it is a Federal Holiday (Memorial Day). School resumes at regular times on Tuesday, May 28, 2020. If you would like to view the District calendar for similar days in the future (click here).
Both the VHS and VSW Counseling Departments have moved to an online process to handle schedule change requests. The online form will be the only way to request a schedule change for the 2019-2020 school year.
Students must log in using their school email to complete the form. Click here for the link to the form.
