Daily Announcements for 4/18

Orange Day

Please keep the following in mind as we head into the State mandated testing (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) next week:

· Bring a fully charged Chromebook with you everyday.

· You may not have either a cellphone or a smart watch during testing time; both will need to be turned off and put away during testing.

· If you normally start the day at Valley High School, you will need to be at Southwoods instead (there is more information about bus transfers below).

· Take an actual book with you to each day of testing. Any remaining time after you have finished a test is considered reading time. You will not be able to use any electronic devices, such as phones or eReaders, until the testing period is over.

· The testing schedule is in today’s announcements (click here).

Community Service

Blank Park Zoo, Race for Hope DSM – 5K Run/Walk, AND Healthy Kids Day are all looking for volunteers. Visit the Silver Cord website for more information.

Make a Friend Friday

Students are reminded that the third Friday of each month is “Make a Friend Friday.” Club Alpha ask all Southwoods students to make a new friend by doing two things this Friday (Apr. 19). First, say, “Hi” and introduce yourself to someone new; second, invite him or her to your lunch table and have a conversation with someone new!

Notes to Parents & Guardians

Parents and guardians, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and assignments in Infinite Campus. The information you gather here can help to facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.

In this class we’ll discuss the risks of vaping, why it’s popular with our youth, signs to look for, and some advice on talking with your child about vaping. Register now (click here).

Thursday, 4/25, 6:30-8 p.m., $0. Learning Resource Center – Fairmeadows Room.

Valley Southwoods Drama: Please note on your calendar that the spring musical Zombie Prom will be performed May 3, 4 & 5 at the Stilwell auditorium. If you are viewing this online, please click here for more details.
