Congratulations to Syncopation Jazz Choir for getting into the State Jazz Championships. Students scored higher than several other varsity groups to earn their spot. Members are: Connor Barnes, Kellen Casper, Carson Copple, Abby Deeds, Summer Dunham, Nick Edgar, Jeremia Gardiner, Andrew Hayes, Brooklyn Johnson, Will Johnson, Celia Kuster, Reagan Mann, Quez Martin, Kyra McManus, Cruz Muntz, Fynn Nadel, Daniel Pham, Kendric Santos-Briggs, Marshall White. Please congratulate them, they will compete on March 26th.
Encore
Students are reminded that by now you should be signed up for one of next week’s (Mar. 12) Encore sessions. If you do not pick one for yourself, one will be assigned to you.
· To make sure you are signed up, use Infinite Campus to check your schedule and you should see an Encore session that includes next Tuesday’s date in red.
· If you have any questions, talk to any teacher.
Valley Dance Team Auditions
The team invites all dancers who will be in grades 9-12 in the 2019-2020 school year to their auditions (April 25th, 2019)! See today’s announcements for details or (click here hardcopy).
· Each dancer and a guardian will be required to attend an information meeting in the Valley High School Forum on April 22nd, 2019 from 6-7:00 pm.
· Dancers will be required to attend both audition practice times on April 23rd, 2019 from 5:30-7:15 pm in the Valley High School North Gym and April 24th, 2019 from 5:30-8:00 pm in the Valley North Gym.
· Closed Auditions will be April 25th from 7:15-9:00 pm in the Valley North Gym.

Next Huddle is Monday (Mar. 11) evening in the Valley High School Cafeteria from 8-9:00. Come hear from a panel of Drake student athletes, plus enjoy some snacks and a fun game. All Valley and Valley Southwoods students are invited to attend!

The main office has Tiger Paw PopSockets on sale. White or Black background. Please bring $2 to the office to purchase yours. Bring the exact amount, as we cannot make change.
Winter illness season is here! Like many Iowa schools, we have a little bit of everything circulating at present–influenza, strep, mono, etc. Please help us stay healthy by following basics:
· Cover your cough
· Frequent hand-washing
· Stay home if you’re ill.
Community Service
One new opportunity: The Valley Tiger Booster Club has loaded Spring and Summer Concession spots for parents and Silver Cord volunteers. Spots are available for Spring Soccer, and Summer Baseball/Softball games. Students can sign up through the dedicated ‘Signup.com’ site (click here) for Silver Cord hours as long as they are not designated hours for your particular sport.

The girls’ golf information meeting has been postponed to Monday (Mar. 11) at 3:45 in room 1502 at Valley High School.
· Golfers are reminded you must have all of your paperwork uploaded to Family ID (click here). If you have questions about FamilyID, please contact Mrs. Bennett in the main office (email click here).
· Free sports physicals are available (click here).
Valley girls’ soccer kicks off their season Monday, March 25th at 3:30 in Valley Stadium. If you would like to join the team, and/or get more information, please contact us (email click here). This will put you on our email list so you receive important information and updates.
All Freshman boys’ and girls’ TENNIS players, please meet in the library this Friday (Mar. 8) morning at 8:15. We will be taking the VSW Yearbook Photos.
Both boys’ and girls’ soccer and tennis players, please confirm that you are on the roster. Please look at your schedule on Infinite Campus and you should see your sport listed at the bottom. If you do not see it, stop by the main office.
· If you DON’T see the sport you want to participate in on your schedule that means that your information is not current and/or up to date; which means you can’t practice.
· Your paperwork should be uploaded to Family ID (click here).

Parents and guardians, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and assignments in Infinite Campus. The information you gather here can help to facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.

Please also note:
· Students with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea should stay home until they are symptom free for 24hrs.
· Please report student absences to attendance at 633-4500.
· If your health provider has recommended restrictions related to the illness, please send the note to the nurse.
· If your student contacts you about not feeling well during the school day, please encourage them to get a pass down to the health office–we can check them out for you and help decide next steps.
Valley Prom 2019 Chaperone and Ticket Sales Help Needed!
Freshman or sophomore parents, please consider volunteering so you can meet other parents and check out what Prom is like BEFORE your student is able to attend a future Prom. It is a fun volunteer position where even you can dress up (optional!) and enjoy a night out at the Iowa Event Center! If you are interested in volunteering to help with either (or both) ticket sales or chaperone, please sign up online (click here).
Ticket Sales: April 10th – 11:15 am-1:15 pm
April 11 &12th – 10:30 am -12:10 pm
Chaperones: April 13th, 8:00-11:00 pm
Prom Ticket Sales Volunteers needed on Wednesday, April 10th, 11:15 – 1:15 pm; Thursday, April 11th, from 10:30 – 12:10 pm and Friday, April 12th from 10:30 – 12:10 pm. Volunteers are needed each day outside the Valley cafeteria.
Valley Prom is Saturday, April 13th at the Iowa Events Center (old Veterans Auditorium) from 8:00-11:00 p.m. 16 parent volunteers are needed for each shift to help Chaperone.

VHS and VSW High School Cheerleading Tryout Information:
· Students must be in 9th-12th grade for the next school year (2019-2020).
· Each candidate and one of his or her parents/guardians are required to attend one (not both) of the information meetings listed below to be eligible to tryout. Both parent and student do need to attend the entire meeting (If you are unable to attend one of these meetings but would still like to tryout, please email Coach Ferguson (email click here).

· Tuesday, March 12th, 7:00-8:00 pm @ VHS Forum-Information Meeting

Do you have a student that would benefit from this: Join us for “Bro Out,” a FREE 3-on-3 basketball competition for 9th-12th grade guys. Plus, enjoy FREE pizza and video games. Teams may have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five. $75 gift card prize for winning team. Register when you get to the Valley Community Center that night (Saturday, March 9; 7-10:00 pm); all team members must be present and registered by 7:15 PM. The tournament will begin at 7:30 PM. This is a “guys-only” event. The Valley Community Center is just down the street from Valley Southwoods.
