Black Day

State Basketball

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team, which includes freshmen Meredith Rieker and Brooklyn Buttolph, for their overtime win against Johnston yesterday morning. That win earns the team a spot in tonight’s championship game against SE Polk at 6:00 in Wells Fargo Arena. Tickets are $10.00 each and available at the door.

Southwoods Drama

Please note that Zombie Prom‘s first rehearsal and read-through has been moved to Monday (Mar. 4) from 3:30-5:30 in Team 1. Questions? Stop by and see Mr. Penning.

Pens

New stylus-tip pens are now available in the pen vending machine outside the forum. They can be used on touch screens, smartphones, and tablets. They are the same cost as before: 50 cents each.

Sports News

There will be no freshman boys’ track and field practice today (Mar. 1).

· Sophomores, juniors, and seniors will practice 3:30-4: 30 pm on the Valley track.

· We encourage ALL track athletes to go to the Well to cheer on our girls’ basketball team in the Championship!

Notes to Parents & Guardians

Hello! Hello! Come join the Drama Boosters on Monday (Mar. 4) at 7 pm in the Drama classroom at VHS. Hot topics will include the VHS and VSW spring musicals!

Parents and guardians, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and assignments in Infinite Campus. The information you gather here can help to facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.

VHS and VSW High School Cheerleading Tryout Information:

· Students must be in 9th-12th grade for the next school year (2019-2020).

· Each candidate and one of his or her parents/guardians are required to attend one (not both) of the information meetings listed below to be eligible to tryout. Both parent and student do need to attend the entire meeting (If you are unable to attend one of these meetings but would still like to tryout, please email Coach Ferguson (email click here).

· Monday, March 11th, 5:30-6:30 pm @ VHS Forum-Information Meeting

· Tuesday, March 12th, 7:00-8:00 pm @ VHS Forum-Information Meeting

· Tuesday, March 26th, 6:00-8:00 pm-Mandatory Tryout Practice at VHS

· Thursday, March 28th, 6:00-8:00 pm-Mandatory Tryout Practice at VHS

· Saturday March 30th, , 8:00 am-Tryouts at VHS

Do you have a student that would benefit from this: Join us for “Bro Out,” a FREE 3-on-3 basketball competition for 9th-12th grade guys. Plus, enjoy FREE pizza and video games. Teams may have a minimum of three players and a maximum of five. $75 gift card prize for winning team. Register when you get to the Valley Community Center that night (Saturday, March 9; 7-10:00 pm); all team members must be present and registered by 7:15 PM. The tournament will begin at 7:30 PM. This is a “guys-only” event. The Valley Community Center is just down the street from Valley Southwoods.
