Thanksgiving Week

Students are reminded that next week we only have school on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 19 & 20). That means that next Tuesday will meet on a “Monday” schedule (periods 1-8), not the normal extended period (odd day with advisory) schedule.

That also means that Tuesday’s transfer buses between Valley and Valley Southwoods will be running on a “Monday” schedule. Bus riders, if you have any questions, stop in the main office and see Mrs. Bennett.

Looking for a good book to read? The library has recently received its newest shipment of books. You are invited to come in and look them over in the New Books section; it’s at the end of the fiction shelves (near the back door). They are available for check out.

Want to see a list of the new materials before coming to the library? From any computer in the building, or at home, you can open Destiny [library.wdmcs.org] and select the “New 2018-19” resource list.

Community Service

There is one new silver cord opportunity:

· Westridge Elementary teachers are hosting a Sharpen the Saw Night and need volunteers to assist the teachers in activities such as crafts, dance party, open gym, science experiments, etc. During this event parents who have students that attend Westridge can drop their kids off at school where they can experience a night of fun and learning with their Westridge teachers. To volunteer for this fun event please use the Sign Up Genius Link (click here). Shift times are 5:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m on Friday, November 30. Questions? Contact Julie Kaufman (email click here).

Otherwise, the District Foundation mini-golf fundraiser at Valley High School, Valley Junction Small Business Saturday Crazy 8’s math club are all still looking for volunteers. Visit the Silver Cord website for more information.

Notes to Parents:

Parents and guardians, please take a moment to review your child’s grades and assignments in Infinite Campus. The information you gather here can help to facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.

If you do not have an Infinite Campus account (click here).

Chromebook Web Filtering: The Chromebook is a learning tool both in the classroom and at home. The partnership between your child’s school and home extends beyond learning reading, writing and arithmetic. Digital citizenship is an important part of today’s world, and helping your student become a positive role model in the digital world is an important part of the WDMCS Chromebook Program.

To that end, WDMCS has chosen a web filtering company, Securly, which allows parents to receive weekly emails that contain their child’s internet activity. Securly also offers a feature that allows parents to choose to block more web content at home, such as social networking sites like Facebook. For more information (click here). If you are having any problems with your Securly service, contact the directly (email click here).
