Notes to Parents and Guardians

Spring Break: There is no school for students this Friday (Mar. 13) as that is a Teacher Compensation day. Spring Break official starts the following Monday (Mar. 16-20). School resumes at regular times on Monday, March 23, 2020 (black day) now tentatively extended to Friday, May 1, 2020 (black day).

Parents and Guardians: Please take a moment to review your student’s grades and assignments in Canvas. The information you gather here can help facilitate conversations at home. It is a great opportunity to celebrate successes and encourage improvement.

How do I access Canvas (Student Grades, class syllabi, Etc…)?

Need your help: Chaperones are needed for the Valley/VSW Dance Marathon, Friday, March 27, 2020. The Event runs from 5:00-10:00 pm (2 shifts available) and is held in the Valley High School Fieldhouse.

· Dress is casual. Volunteers will receive a free Dance Marathon T-shirt!

· Sign up at (click here).

· Volunteers will be required to fill out a WDMCS Volunteer Form either on-line or at the event (click here).

· If interested in volunteering or if you have any questions (email click here).

Please help us with this: If your student is interested in boys’ or girls’ soccer, or boys’ or girls’ tennis please get your FamilyID (click here) accounts created, complete all information, and upload your physical.

· The FamilyID account must be up-to-date before the student-athlete can be placed on the roster for either sport.

· Student-athletes cannot practice until they are on the roster.

· According to the State, the first day of practice is March 16. That is during our spring break, so both teams will start practice on Monday, March 23.

· If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Bennett in the main office.

Winter illness season is here! Like many Iowa schools, we have a little bit of everything circulating at present–influenza, strep, mono, etc. Please help us stay healthy and remind your student about the basics:

· Cover your cough

· Frequent hand-washing

· Stay home if ill. Students with fever, vomiting, or diarrhea should stay home until they are symptom-free for 24hrs.

Please report student absences to attendance at 633-4500. If your health provider has recommended restrictions related to the illness, please send the note to the nurse. If your student contacts you about not feeling well during the school day, please encourage them to get a pass down to the health office–we can check them out for you and help decide the next steps.
